Welcome to Mrs. Svobodny's Principal Webpage
Welcome to Dover-Eyota Elementary School’s webpage. Thank you for coming to visit. Since you clicked on the Principal’s page, I want to share a little about myself with you. I think it is important that parents and community members know something about the elementary school’s leader.
I was raised in a small rural community in Southeast Iowa called Morning Sun. It reminds me of Dover and/or Viola. Family is very important to me. I was blessed to be raised by a mom and dad who loved their four children a lot and who wanted the best for us. Longevity runs in my family as my dad was the veterinarian in our small community for over 60 years. He “retired” at 92 and passed away this past July at 93. My mom was a stay-at-home mom, then a 5th grade teacher, and now at 95 a feisty mom, grandma, and great-grandma.
After graduating from high school in a class of 14, I went to college at Geneva College in Beaver Falls, PA where I received my BS Degree in Elementary Education. After teaching for three years in PA, I received my Master’s Degree in Special Education from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN which was quite a size difference from my high school! In 2000, I received my Principal License from the University of Minnesota and in 2015, I earned my Doctorate Degree in Education Leadership from Hamline University in St. Paul, MN.
I have two incredible biological daughters and three very young biological grandchildren who light up my life. I remarried in 2006 to a wonderful man and gained not only a husband but 4 delightful grown stepchildren, 5 fun step-grandchildren, and 2 preschool step great-grandchildren. My family is looking forward to the time when the transmission of COVID-19 is no longer a threat so that we can all get together again and celebrate family!
I can hardly believe it but I am in my nineteenth year of being the principal of Dover-Eyota Elementary School. What a rewarding time it has been! It continues to be an honor to be the principal of this school of excellence. I know we have the best students, teachers, staff, parents and community in the state of Minnesota!
