The Third Graders will strengthen their problem solving skills while working with a variety of mathematics problems. The students will communicate their math thinking through writing and oral explanations.

Number concepts will be explored while identifying place value, ordering, rounding, estimating, adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing numbers.

Concepts of geometry are enhanced when students sort, classify, and name various geometric shapes. Extending and developing patters will be emphasized.

The students will also measure length, weight, time, volume, and perimeter with appropriate tools.

Third Graders will count money and calculate change.

They will also make and interpret graphs and charts.

The third graders spend time reading at their reading level using Accelerated Reader library books.  They spend time reading alone, in pairs, in small groups and in large groups. Third graders also read selections in the Reading Street basal reader. This program is connected to the spelling and language lessons given within a six day cycle.
