Welcome to Mrs. Shira’s home page!

Hello, and welcome. I am the Family And Consumer Sciences (FACS) teacher at Dover-Eyota High School. FACS is also known as Home Economics and focuses on skills students need to be productive adults.  I teach High School classes of Creative Foods (Foods 1), Advanced Foods (Foods 2), Child Development, Independent Living, Interior Design, and Middle School classes of Life Skills for 7th and 8th Grade.  I am excited to be back for my fourth year here at DE.  My goal is to give students skills they can use for the rest of their life. They have the flexibility in my cooking classes to choose to make things they like from scratch along with planning and accountability skills. We do some exciting projects such as “Food Trucks” in our cooking classes where students plan, prepare, sell, and deliver scratch made meals to staff.

I live on the Mississippi River with my husband Scott in Winona.  We live next door to Scott’s mom on family land. We have 4 children and 6 granddaughter’s! I have a wide and varied background which helps as I teach common sense subjects. I have an undergraduate degree in PE and Health and a Master’s in Information Science.

If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or just want to say hello, please feel free to do so. I’m most easily reached by e-mail, and I’m happy to chat. I am here in the morning from 7:30 am, and after school until at least 3:30 pm.
