Juniors: All Juniors will have the opportunity to take the ACT at DEHS in the Spring of 2024.  More information will follow closer to that time.

College Admissions Testing

College admissions tests are one of three main areas that four-year colleges will look at when they consider you for admission to their school.  The other two major areas they will consider are your grade point average (GPA) and the high school courses that you have taken. They will also look at things like extra-curricular and volunteer activities.  There are two major college admission tests that you can choose to take – the ACT and the SAT.

Dover-Eyota High School Code: 240-785

Both the ACT and SAT test registration will ask you for your high school code. The Dover-Eyota High School code is the same for both tests.

ACT

Students who are planning to attend a four-year college should plan on taking the ACT test in the spring of their junior year. Seniors who are planning to attend a four-year college and still have not taken the test should take it as soon as possible in the fall. The writing portion of the exam is not required but it is recommended you check with the school you’re applying to and see if they require that portion of the exam.  Any student in any grade level can take the ACT whenever it is offered.  Post-Secondary Options students should probably take the ACT test even though they are transferring college credits. The test schedule for the next school year is printed below. Registration for the ACT is online.Dover-Eyota High School Code: 240-785  www.actstudent.org

SAT and Practice SAT (PSAT) –

The SAT is a college entrance exam similar to the ACT. Unless you are planning to attend a college that specifically requires the SAT it is not necessary for you to take this test. Typically fewer than five students from DEHS take this test each year. If you do plan to take the SAT you can register online at  www.collegeboard.com.

The PSAT is a practice SAT test. It is also connected to the National Merit Scholarship Program. Very few of our students have ever received money from this program but it is a good opportunity for students to take a college admissions type test in preparation for the ACT that they will take later in the year. Usually students in the top third to top half of the class take this test but it is open to anyone who wants to take it. The cost for the test is $18.  Registration info will be sent out in late September.  Students can sign up with secretary, Ann Frericks.

TEST DAY FOR THE PSAT IS THURSDAY, OCT. 26, 2023 at Dover-Eyota.
